Right Bank château extends with acquisition of its neighbour
Right Bank estate Château des Mille Anges has acquired a neighbouring estate and is planning to replant 20ha of vines, at a time when many vineyards are being pulled up amid contracting sales.
The 25ha Bordeaux estate, which is situated near Cadillac-sur-Garonne, has acquired its neighbouring estate Château Génisson with a view to replanting the site. This is part of a long-term view by owner Heather van Ekris to position the château “for recovery rather than retrenchment”, the château said, contrary to many producers reducing plantings to better align supply with global demand.
“We are looking beyond today’s challenges and see light at the end of the tunnel,” van Ekris said, owner of Château des Mille Anges. “Bordeaux will bounce back, and we want to be part of that recovery. We plan to gradually replant approximately 20 hectares as market conditions improve over the next three years.”
“The integration of Château Génisson is expected to enhance vineyard potential while continuing a shared winemaking heritage spanning more than two centuries,” it said.

Château des Mille Anges, which has been producing fine wines for more than 300 years, was purchased by Heather van Ekris in 1994 and has since undergone a revitalisation project, including the construction of a new barrel cellar and storage facilities, and the expansion and renovation of the cuverie with state-of- the-art vinification equipment.
Since 2012, Château Angélus’s owner Hubert de Boüard and his team have been consultants at the estate.
