Deftones Mexican lager becomes available online
US metal band Deftones has released its annual collaboration beer with Oceanside’s Belching Beaver Brewery in time for Day of the Dead.

The beer, named Dia de Los Deftones, which is being released to celebrate Day of the Dead on 1 November, is a 5% ABV lime-flavoured Mexican style lager.
This is not the first time the band has partnered up with Belching Beaver Brewery to release a beer. In fact, it annually releases different beer styles with the San Diego microbrewer. This time, the iteration just so happens to be a Mexican lager, but in the past the band has also collaborated on other styles, like IPAs.
Craft breweries need support
Beer is an economic lifeline for millions across the US, in fact, as a whole, the beer industry in America generates US$471 billion in economic activity annually, according to research from the Beer Institute and the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA).
The number of craft breweries operating in June 2025 (9,269) was down 1% from the number operating in June 2024 (9,352). By business type, the smaller distribution-focused microbreweries experienced the largest drop-off at -3%, followed by taprooms at -1%, and brewpubs and regional breweries with no change year-over-year.

Flavoured beer is on-trend
Despite this downward trend, the Brewer’s Association recently revealed that there has been increased demand for premium and innovative flavoured beer have also been forecast to drive sales for US breweries, which shows that The Deftones beer release is bang on-trend.
The Dia de Los Deftones lager, which sports new artwork this year, will be available to buy online and will benefit from delivery across California. The beer will also be served at the band’s Dia de los Deftones 2025 festival that is set to be held on 1 November at Petco Park in San Diego and features a line-up including Clipse, 2Hollis, Rico Nasty and Deafheaven.
Delivery available across California
Speaking about the release, The Deftones said that the lager “will be available at the festival on 1 November” and that “pre-orders are live now at the Belching Beaver online store” with distribution “rolling out to all Belching Beaver taprooms and CA & AZ retailers next week.”
The 6-pack will only available for online delivery for those who live in California, priced at US$13.99 for six 16oz cans.
The band follows in the footsteps of many other rock and heavy metal acts which have collaborated with the world of wine, beer and spirits, including Iron Maiden, New Order, Megadeth and Motorhead.
