Stories of Iberia and resilience from Pata Negra

J García Carrión’s Pata Negra brand brings together eight of Spain’s esteemed Denominations of Origin (DO) wines under a single brand, while its Fauna range responded to unique global crisis.

Pata Negra provides wine enthusiasts with a unique journey through the diverse terroirs and winemaking styles of Spain, using grapes grown in locations from the high-altitude vineyards of Castile and León to the continental plateaus of Murcia. The brand has a presence in eight key Denominations of Origin (DOs): Cava, La Mancha, Rioja, Rueda, Ribera del Duero, Jumilla, Valdepeñas and Toro.

Each wine is crafted to reflect the unique identity of its region, showcasing the soils, climate and grape varieties that contribute to its character. This pioneering approach made Pata Negra the first brand to truly unite the diversity of Spain’s viticultural heritage in a cohesive and accessible portfolio.

The story of Pata Negra began in Valdepeñas, where a special Gran Reserva, sealed with a distinctive black capsule, became a symbol of exceptional quality. This unmistakable ‘black mark’ – Pata Negra – quickly became synonymous with excellence in wine. Today, the brand represents a perfect balance between tradition and innovation, offering consumers worldwide an authentic taste of Spain’s winemaking culture.

Resilience and optimism

The Pata Negra Fauna label was created during a time of global uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, with the range symbolising resilience, optimism and creativity. The label embodies the belief that wine is more than just a beverage; it is a means to tell stories, evoke emotions and foster connections, even during difficult times.

Each wine in the Fauna range honours a different Spanish DO and an animal from the Iberian Peninsula, selected for how its spirit reflects the essence of the wine. La Mancha red wine is represented by a lynx, showcasing intelligence and elegance. Red Rioja features a wolf, known for its speed, instinct and balance. The bottle of Rueda white wine is adorned with a fox, symbolising agility and bright freshness. Lastly, a bull, embodying raw strength and bold character, guards the bottle of Toro red.

Pata Negra’s Fauna range presents a captivating design and compelling emotional storytelling that aims to provide a new perspective on Spanish wine. It embodies the spirit of a vibrant generation of wine enthusiasts who are curious, adventurous and eager to connect with authentic experiences.
Developed by a team that combines expertise in oenology, design and marketing, Fauna is an invitation to explore the exciting world of Spanish wine.
