Limoncino Bottega challenges conventions
Italian Limoncino Bottega lemon liqueur has gained ‘significant’ attention as the Limoncello Spritz has become a trending cocktail.

While primarily known for its eye-catching sparkling wines, Bottega has been producing spirits since the founding of its namesake distillery in 1977 in the heart of Treviso province, Veneto, northern Italy. A maker of the region’s traditional spirit, grappa, the distillery is home to grappa brands Bottega and Alexander.
Since then, distillation has become a key part of Bottega’s legacy, with a diverse portfolio that includes vermouth, gin, vodka, and even single malt whisky.
In 1992, Bottega launched its first batch of limoncello, a traditional Italian lemon liqueur, marking the distillery’s entry into the liqueur category. Limoncino Bottega is made by infusing Femminello lemon peel in alcohol for around 30 days, after which sugar and the distillery’s signature touch of high-quality grappa are added before bottling at 30% ABV.
According to the company, sales of Limoncino Bottega have more than doubled over the past decade, increasing from 2.9 million bottles to 6.2 million. This growth can be attributed to the rise of cocktail culture, particularly the increasing popularity of the Limoncello Spritz, which has gained traction and has steadily risen to compete with traditional bitter aperitif-based long spritz cocktails as a refreshing year-round serve.

The Limoncino has achieved notable success in several markets, including Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the UK, and the US, where the spritz culture has a dedicated following.
To meet changing consumer preferences, Bottega has expanded its Limoncino range to include several standout variations. The offerings include a version made with Sicilian lemons, Limoncello di Sorrento – crafted from lemons sourced from the Sorrento Peninsula and the island of Capri – and a Bio option, made with certified organic lemon peels, organic sugar, and lemon essential oil.
Limocino also caters to those seeking lower- and no-alcohol options. Its range includes a liqueur with an ABV of 21% and a non-alcoholic drink, Limoncino 0.0, which is made from Sicilian lemons. All Limoncino Bottega liqueurs are certified vegan.
Bottega has also entered the trendy ready-to-serve cocktail market with its ‘fresh and zesty’ premixed Lemon Spritz. The signature cocktail, inspired by the Bottega Spritz, combines sparkling wine with Limoncino and mint leaves. With an ABV of 5.4%, this modern twist on a classic provides a bar-quality Spritz with every serving.
