Zamora cuts carbon emissions as Ramón Bilbao marks 100 years
The Spanish wine and spirits group trims Scope 1 and 2 footprint by 8% and expands sustainable procurement, while flagship winery gains IWCA Silver seal.

Driving sustainability through strategy
Zamora Company, owner of brands including Licor 43, Martin Miller’s Gin and Ramón Bilbao, has reported an 8% year-on-year reduction in Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions, as part of its ongoing Conscious Company Plan.
The results were published in the group’s fifth Conscious Company Report, released as Ramón Bilbao marks its centenary. The company said it has also increased the number of suppliers certified under its Sustainable Procurement Model to 1,500, with 90% of them based in Spain.
CEO Javier Pijoan said: “With our fifth Conscious Company report, we close 2024 with our sights set on the challenges ahead, but also with the confidence that we are on the right path: that of profitable, responsible and sustainable growth.”
In 2024, renewable energy made up 61.7% of Zamora’s consumption, with a target of reaching 90% by 2025. Other initiatives included reducing bottle weight to save more than 100 tonnes of glass annually and introducing eco-certified paper labels.

Ramón Bilbao was awarded the International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) Silver seal last year, reinforcing its commitment to cutting greenhouse gas emissions across the wine industry. Zamora described the Haro-based winery, founded in 1924, as a leader in “precision agriculture”.
Supporting society and staff
In 2024, Zamora donated 2% of its net profit to social causes, including aid for vulnerable families, employment programmes and homelessness support. The company also launched a volunteer programme for staff, involving initiatives such as school supply collections and charitable campaigns with Fundación La Caixa and Carrefour.
Cultural sponsorships included supplying wines to the Malaga Film Festival, Las Noches del Botánico in Madrid, and Icónica Fest in Seville. Mar de Frades and Martin Miller’s Gin backed Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid.
The company ended the year with a workforce of over 580 people across 32 nationalities. It delivered more than 9,000 hours of training, exceeding its target by 104%, with a focus on food safety, technical skills and premiumisation.
Founded nearly 80 years ago with Licor 43, Zamora Company remains a family-owned business. Today it operates in over 80 countries with production sites in Spain, Italy and the US. The group recorded €260 million in turnover in 2024 and owns a portfolio of premium wine and spirits brands including Ramón Bilbao, Villa Massa, Lolea and Mar de Frades.
