Goose Island reveals its 2025 Bourbon County Brand Stout lineup

Goose Island Beer Co has released the 2025 edition of its Bourbon County Brand Stout family. db finds out more.

Each year, the lineup begins with Bourbon County Brand Original Stout, which is understood to be not just a pioneering imperial stout of more than 30 years, but also part of the beer brand’s legacy. The release began back in 1992 when Bourbon County Brand Stout was first created in celebration of the 1000th batch of beer brewed at Goose Island.

For 2025, the Bourbon County Brand Stout family tells “a story of metamorphosis,” and, for the first time, Goose Island is debuting 10-ounce four-pack bottles of Bourbon County Brand Original Stout.

Speaking to the drinks business, Goose Island Beer Co senior brand manager John Zadlo said: “As the creators of Bourbon barrel-aged stout, our mission has always been to honour the beer that started it all—Bourbon County Brand Original Stout—while continuing to innovate. This year, we celebrate a new chapter with the introduction of our 10-ounce bottle for Original and showcase the metamorphosis Original takes through each beer within the 2025 lineup.”

Goose Island revealed that the recipe remains unchanged, but hinted that the new format “reflects a shift in occasion” and so is “perfect for side-by-side tastings with the rest of the family or for savouring on its own”.

2025 Bourbon County Brand Cherries Jubilee Stout has been finished in Cognac casks, and 2025 Bourbon County Brand Chocolate Praline Stout has been aged in freshly emptied, single-use Bourbon barrels.

The 2025 Bourbon County Brand Proprietor’s Stout has been inspired by Baklava and 2025 Bourbon County Brand Double Barrel Stout has been created using two sets of Heaven Hill Bottled-in-Bond barrels while 2025 Bourbon County Brand Reserve Stout has been aged in 17th edition Parker’s Heritage 10-year-old rye whiskey barrels.

Describing what makes these releases special, Zadlo told db: “Whether you’re new to barrel-aged stouts or a seasoned enthusiast, there’s something here for everyone. Bourbon County Cherries Jubilee Stout, Chocolate Praline Stout, and Proprietor’s Stout offer decadent and approachable takes that spotlight the hallmark flavours of Original. For those who seek depth and complexity, our Reserve and Double Barrel releases celebrate the nuance that only world-class barrels and expressive whiskeys can bring.”
