Garda DOC reappoints consorzio president

The Consorzio Garda DOC, which oversees wine production around Lake Garda in the northeast of Italy, has re-elected Paolo Fiorini as its president.

Fiorini, the agronomist and oenologist at Cadis 1898 SAC, was first elected to the role of president in 2021, taking on the position after the sudden death of previous president Luciano Piona. He will remain in the role for the next term, from 2025 to 2027.

“Our territory is a unique heritage, built on tradition, quality, and innovation,” commented Fiorini. “With its rolling hills, mild climate, and deep connection to Lake Garda, it is an extraordinary resource to be protected, shared, and promoted with passion and determination. In the coming years, our goal will be to strengthen the identity of the Garda DOC designation, enhancing its prestige both nationally and internationally.”

Also returning to their role in the consorzio are Giovanna Prandini of Morenica Soc. Agr. and Collis Veneto Wine Group SCA’s Giovanni Verzini.

“The renewed trust of the board of directors represents an extraordinary opportunity to continue contributing to the development of our denomination,” commented Prandini.

The reappointments follows the consorzio’s SWOT analysis of Garda DOC, looking at the perceived value of the wines as well as the challenges the region faces, including a lack of “specificity” among consumers. The leadership of the Consorzio Garda DOC has stated that it plans to enhance the “prestige” and “visibility” of the wines from around Lake Garda over the coming two year term in office.

Garda DOC isn’t the only consorzio to have recently voted to retain its leadership, with the Consorzio Tutela Vini d’Abruzzo recently doing the same.
