Always Sunny stars’ whiskey sponsors Wrexham AFC

Four Walls, the whiskey brand of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia‘s Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney and Charlie Day, has been announced as an official sponsor of football club Wrexham AFC.

The partnership has come about because McElhenney, who plays Mac on the hit FX show, is a co-owner and co-chairman of Wrexham AFC alongside Ryan Reynolds. The duo starred in Welcome to Wrexham, a documentary about their takeover of the club also broadcast on FX.

Through the sponsorship, the Four Walls Irish American Whiskey logo will appear on the left sleeve of the team’s new training kits, though the whiskey is not currently available in the UK.

McElhenney said of the sponsorship: “Our whiskey is a tribute to the bar and the free feeling you get when you enter its four walls – leaving all your troubles at the door and being in the moment – much like our supporters do when they enter the racecourse grounds. We’re proud to wear Four Walls on our sleeve, and I can’t wait for fans everywhere to be able to celebrate some wins with a glass of Four Walls soon.”

McElhenney, Howerton and Day also star in a video promoting the partnership which plays on some of the differences between US and UK sporting terminology, and makes light of the sponsorship being for a sleeve:

The trio set up Four Walls last year, promising to give whiskey fans a taste of “the better brown”. They recently unveiled a new advert to promote their product.

This sponsorship is not the first time that Wrexham AFC has received interest from drinks brands since McElhenney and Reynolds’ takeover. Betty Booze, the low-calorie mixer range of actor (and Reynolds’ wife) Blake Lively, used the club in its latest online advertising campaign, and Reynolds himself is fighting to use the Wrexham brand name for a beer in the US.
