NFL legend Tom Brady visits Birmingham boozer

NFL quarterback Tom Brady surprised Birmingham City FC fans at the weekend when he headed to a pub near the club’s St. Andrew’s stadium.

American Football star Brady, who won the Super Bowl seven times (six with the New England Patriots, one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and is widely-considered to be one of the sport’s greatest players of all time, was revealed earlier this month to have invested in the other kind of football, becoming a minority owner of Championship side Birmingham City FC.

Ahead of the club’s home game against Leeds United on Saturday (which Birmingham City won by one goal to nil), Brady, who is also chairman of Birmingham City FC’s Advisory Board, dropped by The Roost pub to mingle with fans.

The pub shared videos on social media of fans serenading Brady with Birmingham City FC chants, as well as a chorus of “USA, USA”:

A Facebook post from the pub also revealed that Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, who was also present, was “responsible” for getting Brady “on the Guinness”.

In an Instagram post shared to his 14.2 million followers, Brady toasted an “incredible day” in the Midlands: “From the moment we walked into The Roost, to the second the penalty hit the back of the net, your energy was humbling and a moment I won’t ever forget. Thank you to all the supporters for welcoming us into this family with open arms. To the players, coaches, attendants, and rest of the staff, congratulations on a well deserved day, but we’re just getting started.”
