Did England and Australia teams have a post-Ashes drink?
Questions were raised yesterday whether the England and Australia cricket teams did finally have a post-Ashes drink following a heated series.
According to reports, the Australia team waited outside the dressing room of the England team at the Oval cricket ground to share a few brews, but at around 11pm left the venue empty-handed.
Although the Australian press was quite to view the situation as a ‘snub’, England captain Ben Stokes later confirmed on social media that the various presentations for retiring cricketers, including Stuart Broad, meant the team was delayed. Instead, they met up ‘in the night club’.

The news follows a heated Ashes series, with a limited edition ‘English Bitter’ sent directly to the England cricket squad by Asahi-owned brewer Victoria Bitter, following the Ashes’ stumping controversy of Jonny Bairstow at the end of an over during this summer’s second Ashes test, when it wasn’t clear if the ball was in play or not.
The debate has raged since on both sides of the world as to whether the ruling was in the “spirit of the game”.
It has caused ire in Australia and its national press, after former controversies involving the England team where they benefited from debatable decisions, and resulted in numerous images and memes of England cricketers as crying babies.
Shortly after, the controversy, McCullum said he couldn’t see the two teams sharing a post-series beer “any time soon”.
Last month, it was also announced that former Aussie captain Ricky Ponting’s wines were to land on UK shores, due to a deal with Ocado, causing the Sydney Morning Herald to ask ‘Can Ricky Ponting sell wine to the English?’.
