Graham Gooch’s wine collection for sale

Fine wines from the collection of former England cricketer Graham Gooch have gone on sale through From Vineyards Direct.

A personal friend of chairman Johnny Wheeler and “enthusiastic customer” of the company over the years, Gooch apparently has had a “longstanding interest and passion in ‘better wine’.”

Wheeler commented: “Graham is now looking to offer some of his finest wines for sale and we’re delighted he has chosen us to bring these wines to market. Graham’s wines have been stored in our professional, in-bond facility since shipment.”

The collection on offer is not huge, just 13 cases in total, but includes; 2009 Château Mouton-Rothschild, 2010 Château d’Yquem, 2010 Château Lafite, 2009 Château Lynch-Bages and 2017 Canon and Rauzan-Ségla.

Each case will come with a letter of provenance and a card signed by Gooch. All of the wines save a case of 2005 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux are being offered in bond.

Gooch, like many former sportsmen, makes wine of his own as well down in Southern France. It’s called ‘333’, a reference to his innings of the same score against India at Lords in 1990.

England are facing a fearsome-looking Indian team again (fresh off a test series victory against Australia) this Friday.
