ProWein shows: São Paulo postponed Shanghai on track

Wine fair organiser Messe Düsseldorf has said that it has postponed its ProWine São Paulo show next month but a November show in Shanghai is on track and preparations are ongoing for its Düsseldorf show in 2021.

The ProWine São Paulo show was scheduled for 20-22 October this year but has been postponed to next year.

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused great disruption to big wine shows this year and he outbreak in Brazil has been particularly severe.

Although big shows are going to be allowed again from mid-October in São Paulo, the organisers said that, “the unclear rules issued by the government were too big a factor of uncertainty to reliably plan ProWine. Messe Düsseldorf therefore decided jointly to postpone the event to October 2021 to be on the safe side”.

China by contrast is a very different story with clear requirements and rules and the Shanghai show is going ahead as planned from 10-12 November this year.

A number of major international pavilions will be there from Germany, Portugal, Austria, France and Japan among others, as well as leading Chinese companies such as Great Wall and Chinese wine regions with their own stands.

“This is an encouraging sign of the wine trade being ready for a re-start after months of standstill,” Messe Düsseldorf said in a statement.

“Although not all international pavilions have decided on their participation yet due to the travel restrictions, they are actively looking for solutions. The plan is to involve subsidiaries or local importers.”

Meanwhile, the next ProWein Düsseldorf is scheduled for March 2021. The organisers said there is a “comprehensive hygiene concept” being out in place in preparation for any specific requirements that may be necessary.

Next year’s calendar also includes two shows in Asia; ProWine Singapore from 2-5 March and ProWine Hong Kong from 12-14 May.
