MMD annual tasting to be held next week

The Maisons Marques et Domaines Annual Tasting will be held in the Millbank Tower in London on 29 January, with new additions to its portfolio set to be unveiled, including wines from Sonoma’s Merry Edwards and Paternoster from Basilicata.

The London tasting will provide members of the trade and press with a first look at new additions to the MMD portfolio, which will be formally launched later in 2020.

Established by Champagne Louis Roederer in 1986, MMD manages the sales, distribution and marketing of 30 leading brands, linked by family ownership, estate driven production and a reputation for exceptional quality.

Visitors will have the opportunity to taste over 150 wines from the MMD portfolio, including Cristal 2012; Chateau Pichon Lalande 1995; Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley Grand Cru 2014; Siepi 2016; Millecento Brunello di Montalcino Reserva 2012.

Commenting on the tasting, Richard Billett, managing director of MMD, said: “We always look forward to this moment early in our calendar, representing as it does the first major opportunity for us to collectively engage with and embark on the year ahead.

“As anticipated, 2019 proved to be an unpredictable year, but I am pleased to say that with the support of our principals and producers, we were able to manage the challenges of a number of false starts and focus on strengthening our portfolio proposition, providing continuity of supply and delivering consistently high standards of service for our customers.

“We have looked to strengthen further the MMD portfolio this year with the addition of two pioneering producers, one from the New and one from the Old World.

“Purchased by our parent company, Champagne Louis Roederer, in 2018 as it expands its interests in California, Merry Edwards is a Sonoma County visionary and one of California’s first female winemakers, best known for her structured Pinot Noirs and notable single vineyard wines.

“Joining the portfolio from the Old World is Paternoster from Basilicata, a leading exponent of Aglianico del Vulture, now under the ownership of Tommasi Family Estates.”
