We know which white wine was served at the royal wedding

Sales of French wine Les Sétilles have shot through the roof after it was revealed to be the drink of choice for the royal wedding reception.

The wine, a 2016 Les Setilles Bourgogne Blanc from Puligny-Montrachet producer Olivier Leflaive, is a 100% Chardonnay from the area surrounding the villages of Puligny and Meursault.

Since it was revealed as the tipple of choice to accompany bowl-food at the reception, sales of the white Burgundy have soared. UK merchant Lay & Wheeler began selling the Chardonnay in July 2017, selling just under 2,800 bottles up to January 2018, when it was removed from the store’s selection.

The retailer told the drinks business that the remaining 810 bottles sold in just two hours when it was re-introduced for sale on 28 May.

The news comes after premium Champagne houses, spirits brands and craft brewers have gradually confirmed whether or not their products were present at both the formal royal wedding reception and after-party at Frogmore House.

The revelation has dispelled rumours that Prince harry and Meghan Markle were going to opt for Californian and English wines at the wedding reception.

Earlier this year, betmaker Ladbrokes offered odds on nuptial drinks, predicting that Californian wines were the most likely to be served with odds of 1/3. French wines were close in the running, but longer at 2/1.

Then in May, both Ladbrokes and William Hill re-issued odds devoted to English sparkling wines.

Chapel Down was the hot favourite to represent English wine at the reception following months of rumours that it is becoming one of the royal family’s go-to producers for special occasions.

Ladbrokes issued odds on Chapel Down of 2/1, while William Hill was even more confident, giving the winery evens.
