Rooftop glow in the dark gin bar to open in Sydney

A glow in the dark gin bar is set to open this month on the rooftop terrace of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney as part of the city’s annual festival of light, music and ideas, Vivid.

In partnership with Bacardi-owned brand Bombay Sapphire, with a gin in hand, guests can view the light installations on the Sydney harbour as well as projections on the museum itself, developed by artist Jonny Niesche.

Cocktails will be served in LED-lit glasses with the option to select your own garnish from a ‘vertical garden’.

On pour will be three takes on the G&T as well as the brands first experiment with a hot gin cocktail.

The bar is not taking bookings and will be open between 5 and 9pm on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights during Vivid Sydney, which takes place from 25 May to 16 June.

The museum’s façade is set to be transformed by a large-scale projection called Virtual Vibration, courtesy of Niesche and developed in conjunction with the Spinifex Group and composer Mark Pritchard.

Bombay Sapphire brand ambassador Peter Hollands said: “Hot Gin is a popular trend dating back to the 18th century, and such a versatile drink for however you want to spend your winter nights – whether it’s escaping the cold on a night out or during a night in on the sofa. The warmth will transport you to sitting in front of a warm fire on a cold London night out.

“The hot temperature of the drink accentuates the botanicals and provides a greater depth, perfect to enjoy while Sydney’s temperatures drop this winter. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the Sydney crowd responds to this innovative drink offering”.
