You can now bathe in Sangiovese in Fulham

A wine spa called Ella di Rocco has opened on the Fulham Road in London offering guests the chance to bathe in Sangiovese and be scrubbed in Merlot.

The Sangiovese bath is said to have slimming, illuminating and de-stressing effects

The basement spa in the west London borough encourages guests to sip red wine while enjoying vinotherapy treatments, which include a Sangiovese detox wrap and a Merlot grape seed purifying body massage.

The treatments at the Tuscan-inspired spa make full use of all parts of the grape, from vine leaves and grape seed oil to grape skins and grape juice.

The crimson-hued Sangiovese bath takes place in a giant square white stone tub filled with Sangiovese sourced from Cantina Goretti in Umbria, virgin grape juice and a dash of hot water, with a few petals thrown in for good measure.

Above the bath a sign reads: “Please resist tasting the water while you bathe. Only drink the wine that is served in our glasses”. According to the spa, the bath has a “slimming, illuminating and de-stressing” effect.

Red grape skins are full of antioxidants, which work to combat premature ageing. “Wine therapy has been described as ‘the elixir of youth’. The polyphenols in grapes stimulate circulation and detoxify the skin, leaving it hydrated and rejuvenated,” the Ella di Rocco website states.

“For city dwellers, it also clears away the toxins present in our skin caused by smog,” it adds.
