Winery uses goats to recycle Christmas trees
A winery in Virginia is providing a “free goat disposal service” to help locals recycle their Christmas trees after the festive period.
The six-generation fruit farm which produces a range of products including wine, fruit wine and jam has said that anyone is allowed to drop off their tree which will then be fed to its goats.
Speaking to ABC13WSET.com, owner of Peaks of Otter, Danny Johnson said that after the goats had stripped the pine needles off the trees, some of the leftover branches would also be used by the winery.
“Once they eat it down, and they aren’t going to eat it anymore, we got to dispose of it. Sometimes we put them in our ponds, so that our fish can lay eggs in them,” Johnson said.
