db’s Millar shortlisted at Roederer awards

Rupert Millar, editor of The Drinks Business Hong Kong, has been shortlisted in the Feature Writer of the Year category at the 2017 Louis Roederer International Wine Writers’ Awards.

Known for his love of military history, Millar specialises in fine wine at db and covers the Bordeaux en primeur campaign exhaustively each year.

His passion for history resulted in an in-depth online series published on db.com in 2014 entitled ‘wine and warfare’, which stretched to 16 entries.

To win the award, Millar will have to see off stiff competition from the likes of Jon Bonné, Nina Caplan, Margaret Rand, Felicity Carter and Alice Feiring.

Now in its 13th year, this year’s judges included the Tate’s wine buyer Hamish Anderson, TV wine personality Peter Richards MW and former Decanter editor Guy Woodward.

“We had even more high-quality entries in this year’s Roederers. Reading them was a stimulating process, and the Online and Emerging categories continue to highlight new talent,” said Charles Metcalfe, chairman of the judges.

“At the top level these pieces were more than just writing about wine; these were exercises in serious cultural commentary – cultural commentary from the bottom of a glass, but in a good way,” added fellow judge Francis Percival.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Tuesday 12 September.
