Firefighters were called to the first floor apartment of a building in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Sunday, but were stunned to encounter a man hell bent on saving his beer from the burning building.

According to a Sioux Falls police, a 56-year-old man ignored an officer’s request to refrain from entering the building, running into the building twice despite protests from firefighters working to douse the flames.

Upon emerging from the burning building for a second time, the man was seen carrying a pair of Bud Ice beers with him.

In a tweet following the incident Sioux Falls Police said: “1 in custody after obstructing fire and police. It is not advisable to push past PD and Fire in an attempt to “save your beer” #besmart”, adding: “This incredibly poor judgement could have put many responders at risk #notworthyourlife.”

The man was charged with obstructing a police or law enforcement officer.

Two people were treated for smoke inhalation, with one taken to hospital with burns.
