Top lots of Sotheby’s HK sale

Sotheby’s two-day single-owner sale happening in Hong Kong from 1-2 October features a treasure trove of aged Burgundy and Bordeaux with a rare expression of Japanese whisky. We round up the top lots to look out for.

Highlights of Sotheby’s Hong Kong sale include a rare collection of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Henri Jayer where the owner has built up the cellar over the last two decades. Adam Bilbey, head of wine for Sotheby’s said:

“Wines have been purchased directly from distributors and auctions. Since purchase, all wines have been stored in a professional climate controlled storage facility in Hong Kong and all wines have been inspected in Hong Kong by Robert Sleigh, Adam Bilbey and Paul Wong.”

Serena Sutcliffe MW, honorary chairman of Sotheby’s Wine added: “This is a very special collection of wine, one that is close to my ideal in terms of fascinating diversity and sheer excitement.   These are the choices made by one of the most passionate and committed wine lovers that we know and show the wide-ranging appreciation of quality for which the consignor is admired.   This sale contains some of the ‘wines of my life’, starting (alphabetically) with Château Ausone 1928 which was a revelation to me when I first saw it, revealing the legendary longevity of this magic property.

“Multi-carat wine collections are a total treat.   When the vintages traverse three centuries and the châteaux and domaines are the most glittering, the pulse quickens – and the palate goes into virtual overdrive.   The vinous landmarks are all here, paying homage to the past and, in the case of the younger years, looking forward to a very rosy future.”
