According to Haig Club’s master distiller Chris Clark, the Bourbon casks lend the whisky “vanilla, butterscotch and toffee” notes, giving it a “smooth and sweet” character.

Clark recommends mixing it with cola as the vanilla and coconut flavours in the whisky complement the caramel notes in the cola.

Beckham is hoping the expression will create a new generation of Scotch fans. “I look forward to welcoming Clubman into the Haig Club family. From its earliest days, Scotch has attracted people from all over the world with its sophistication, style and distinctive array of flavours.

“I want to continue in this spirit, bringing to market a special new whisky and introducing new fans to this incredible industry,” he said.

The name is inspired by a Haig whisky advert from the 1920s in which the spirit is referred to as “the clubman’s whisky”. The Scotch is housed in the brand’s signature electric blue glass in an elongated rectangular bottle that sets it apart from its older sibling.

“Clubman aligns with our ambition to offer a stable of Haig Club expressions at various price points to match different occasions and consumer tastes,” said Ronan Beirne, Haig Club’s global marketing director.

“The time is right to introduce a new edition. Haig Club Clubman will enable us to drive the momentum of the Scotch category in line with the brand’s strategy,” he added.

Haig Club is a collaboration between David Beckham, Diageo and music impresario Simon Fuller. The original Haig Club was launched in 2014.
