Dom Pérignon P2 fizzes at Sotheby’s retail

Hong Kong’s fine wine auction house, Sotheby’s has just announced it has taken on stock of Don Pérignon’s P2 1996.

Previously known as ‘Oenothèque’, Dom Pérignon has rebranded its late-release champagnes into Plenitudes. “P2” is the Second Plénitude in the wine’s prolonged ageing process and the wines are released after minimum 12 years of ageing on the lees.

There are currently four P2 releases: 1993, 1995, 1996 and 1998 with 1996 being disgorged in 2008.

Vivian Liang, Sotheby’s retail sales manager said:  “1996 is one of the truly great vintages in Champagne and is the most mineral laden of all the releases, with pure citrus fruit and a striking freshness.

“The wine is very well-structured for further ageing, yet its wonderful smoothness and complexity will lure you into pouring it now.”

A 750ml bottle of Dom Pérignon P2 1996 is HK$3,100 and is available via Sotheby’s online wine store.
