10 Cases launches wine delivery service

Covent Garden restaurant The 10 Cases is to launch a free wine delivery service that will see bottles couriered on an electronic bike to central London addresses.

Orders can be as small as one bottle, and the restaurant promises to deliver wines free of charge within an hour of ordering on its eco-friendly bike. Wines can be purchased on the 10 Cases website and will be charged at retail price.

Among those on offer through the service will be Tesch Unplugged Reisling 2014 for £14.50, Perrin Condrieu 2013 for £40 and La Rioja Alta Viña Ardanza 2007 for £22.50.

Owners Will Palmer and Ian Campbell are currently in the testing phase of the offer, which will go live in central London this spring with the view of extending the offering outside of zone one by the summer.

Palmer and Campbell are targeting both businesses and wine loving consumers. “We envisage people using the service for a number of different reasons, from dinner parties, office parties, picnics and gifting to saving time on their shopping,” he told db.

If successful, the duo will create “wine hubs” in north, south, east and west London that serve as both delivery stations and wine bars serving small plates. “We plan to have private cellars in each hub where customers can store their own wines to either drink on site or have them delivered for free,” Palmer revealed.

Palmer has opted for free delivery on as little as a single bottle as he believes customers shouldn’t be forced to buy in bulk to avoid delivery charges.

The 10 Cases opened on Endell Street in 2011. In addition to a wine bar and bistro, the site boasts a wine shop where customers can buy wines on the list at retail prices.
