Concha y Toro on Asia grand tour

Chile’s iconic wine brand, Don Melchor of Concha y Toro has teamed up with former three-Michelin starred chef, Bruno Menard to conduct a “culinary challenge tour” around Asia.

Bruno Menard has created a unique five course dinner to pair with five of Don Melchor’s classic vintages

Bruno Menard of Tokyo’s L’Osier fame is acting as Don Melchor’s brand ambassador for 2015 and has created a “five-courses for five vintages” dinner to pair with Don Melchor’s classic vintages of 1988, 1990, 2007, 2010 and 2011.

Cities included in the tour will be Singapore, Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Macau and Taipei and the menu features poached eggs with air cured beef, pan roasted foie gras, lobster, ribeye Wagyu beef, and fresh strawberry compote – all created by Menard to “beautifully match the subtle vintages of Don Melchor.”

“This challenge is all about wine and food,” Menard continued. “Food is all about sensation, pleasure and trying to match this amazing wine with my kind of food was not easy. The wine is absolutely brilliant, you can taste that immediately, and feel that the winemaker also expresses sensations as well as specific terroir in the wine.”

Enrique Tirado has been the winemaker at Concha y Toro since 1995 and in 1997 assumed responsibility for its premium brand, Don Melchor.

Tirado became the exclusive winemaker of Don Melchor in 1999 and since his years at the helm, Don Melchor has consistently been awarded on average, above 94 points in Wine Spectator with the 2010 vintage scooping 95 points – making it Chile’s top-scoring wine and placing it firmly on the New World wine map.

The dates of the Asia tour are:

• 31 October: Singapore at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, in partnership with Wine Advocate’s Matter of Taste
• 10 November: Japan, Tokyo at Yokohama Bay Sheraton Hotel and Towers
• 12 November: Japan, Osaka at the Ritz-Carlton
• 20 November: Korea, Seoul at Lotte World Hotel
• 2 December: Macau at the City of Dreams – The Tasting Room
• 15 December: Taiwan, Taipei at the Mandarin Oriental
