SA wine served at Swedish royal wedding

A South African producer has revealed its Pinot Noir was among the wines personally selected by the King of Sweden to be served at his son’s wedding to Princess Sofia.

Sofia Hellqvist, now known as HRH Princess Sofia, Duchess of Värmland, married Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip in a lavish ceremony in Stockholm on Saturday. Radford Dale’s Pinot Noir, produced in Elgin, was among the wines selected by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden to be served at the royal couple’s wedding banquet.

Expressing delight at its selection, Radford Dale said: “Freedom had originally be chosen for the palace cellar for regular, formal dinners but we won this particular honour over their established Burgundy producers after an additional tasting with the King and his sommelier.”
