Kerala Church seeks to produce more wine
The Syro-Malabar Catholic Church in Kerala has approached the state Excise Department asking to increase the capacity of the Church-owned mass wine production facility.
Due to a growth in worshippers and number of religious sites in the region, the Church wants to increase its allowance to 5,000 litres per annum as opposed to its current restriction of 1,600 litres, according to the South Asia Mail.
The facility in Thrikkakkara owned by the Archdiocese of Ernakulam-Angamali had its quota upped from 800 litres in 1992 and has held the mass wine license since in 1986.

Syro-Malabar Church spokesperson, Fr Paul Thelakkat said there was “a significant rise” in the numbers of churches and its followers in the state and so the quantity of mass wine, which symbolises the blood of Jesus Christ, is required to be increased to perform the Holy Mass.
