Perched high atop The Banyan Tree hotel’s 61st floor, Vertigo and Moon Bar is often credited with having kick-started the city’s rooftop trend. Boasting spectacular views, Vertigo offers al fresco grill-and-bar, while from the Moon Bar you can enjoy spectacular sunsets while sipping on the hotel’s signature cocktail, the Vertigo Sunset – a blend of pineapple, cranberry, lime and Malibu.

Phra Nakorn Bar & Gallery
For a slightly less formal experience head over to Phra Nakorn Bar & Gallery in Bangkok’s old city. With eclectic decor and revolving art exhibitions, it attracts a younger, trendy crowd drawn in by its views of the golden pra-prang temple and good value Thai food and drinks, which includes a decent selection of cocktails.

Park Society Rooftop at Sofitel So Bangkok
Set on the 29th floor of Sofitel’s Bangkok Hotel the Park Society Rooftop, with its infinity mirrors, embossed stainless steel and intersecting polygon design, offers a futuristic spot for surveying the skyline. It serves a small but well-formed selection of drinks and fusion dishes. One of its specialities is a five course Lobster menu which boasts Canadian lobster medallions, pan seared fois gras with lobster claws and roasted beer Angus tenderloin with lobster ravioli.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel
The stately Oriental Hotel is a Bangkok landmark opening in 1953, with its Bamboo Bar a reflection of its rich history. Presided over by mixologist Mirko Gardelliano, its cocktail list includes signature cocktails such as the Raspberry Nitrogen Sorbet – a blend of raspberry vodka, pineapple juice, lime, sugar syrup and nitrogen. The Bamboo Bar Negroni meanwhile comprises homemade caramel gin, Vermouth and dry orange campari served with a coffee tiramisu Macaron.

Sirocco Sky Bar at Lebua
Perhaps one of Bangkok’s most stunning bars, the Sky Bar at Lebua offers truly breathtaking views of the city from its privileged position 63 floors up. Its “multi-hued island bar”, which changes colour every 90 seconds, juts out over the edge of the building and is helmed by mixologist Ron Ramirez who, following stints at top hotels and resorts in Dubai and the Maldives, set about reinvigorating Bangkok’s cocktail culture. Part of The Hangover Part II was filmed here, prompting the hotel to create the ‘Hangovertini’ which has since become its trademark. It is also situated just steps from the Sirocco restaurant, which serves up award-winning Mediterranean fare.
