And finally, not all winery mascots bark. At Seneca Lake-based Ventosa Vineyards, two donkeys named Bella and Georgio rule the roost. Seven-year old Bella and four-year old Georgio share the estate with two peacocks.

Ventosa, which means “windy in Italian” is set across 23 acres planted with Pinot Noir, Lemberger, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Chardonnay. It also grows Sangiovese and Tocai Friulano, Italian grapes not typically found in the Finger Lakes Region.
