Brewery owner arrested in dawn raid

The owner of London Fields Brewery, Jules de Vere Whiteway-Wilkinson, has been arrested in a dawn raid of his home on suspicion of tax evasion.

As reported by the Evening Standard, the former public schoolboy was detained by HM Revenue and Customs officers at his house in Stoke Newington having been questioned about failing to pay VAT at the brewery.

In addition to his house, the brewery was also searched, with witnesses reporting seeing files being taken away and equipment and stock removed with a forklift.

The 42-year-old has run London Fields since 2004.

London Fields Brewery is temporarily closed and its five beers, including Hackney Hopster, Shoreditch Triangle and Love not War, are listed as “out of stock” on its website.

    No mention of the fact that he was jailed for 12 years in 2004 for running a multi million pound drug ring and owed millions of pounds to the Government? A leopard can’t change his spots…
