Mick Jagger shakes hips at Aussie winery

Two Australian winemakers were left extremely satisfied after Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger rocked up at their winery for an impromptu tour, and ended up knocking back beers and jamming on their piano.

Taking time off during the band’s Australia tour, Mick “the hips” Jagger set off on a whistlestop tour of wineries in Australia’s Hahndorf and Adelaide Hills region with Patti Hansen, the wife of Jagger’s bandmate Keith Richards, as reported by Australia’s The New Daily.

Wineries on the radar included Scott, La Prova, Hahndorf Hill, Shaw and Smith and Ochota Barrels – a boutique winery led by winemakers Taras Ochota and his wife Amber,

Expecting just “some of the crew” to turn up, the couple were shocked when two blacked-out Audis and a team of security guards arrived at their winery with Jagger in tow.

Speaking to The New Daily, Taras said: “We were told there could be a chance Mick Jagger might come, but we really only expected some of the crew. We strolled around the garden and sat outside under the old hazelnut tree where we had all our wines open with lunch. Then a couple of brand new Audis with blackened windows rolled down the drive. The security sussed the place out and then Mick came inside and we had a few beers.”

Wines offered to the rock legend included Ochota’s The Slint Vineyard Chardonnay, A Forest Pinot Noir, The Fugazi Vineyard Grenache, I am the Owl Syrah and A Sense of Compression Grenache, the latter rather appropriately made in collaboration with winemaker Maynard James Keenan of heavy metal band Tool.

So comfortable was Jagger in the family’s presence that he played “tractors” with the couple’s two-year-old son and even jumped on the piano for an impromptu sing-along.

Jagger ended up buying “pretty much all our wine we had in the winery at that time”, mainly The Fugazi Vineyard Grenache, The Slint Vineyard Chardonnay and Amber’s Pinot called Home.

Patti meanwhile bought a dozen of The Green Room Grenache Syrah for husband Keith.

Taras added: “After they had gone, Amber and I just sat on the couch looking at each other in disbelief at what had just happened. They were all such down-to-earth, lovely people.”
