Tom Jones Brits’ preferred drinking pal

Welsh singing superstar Tom Jones has been voted the most popular British pop or rock star to have a pint with, according to a survey by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

The survey, commissioned by CAMRA ahead of Great British Beer Week, was prompted by the actions of US pop star and known beer-lover Katy Perry who recently greeted crowds on tour with a pint of local brew, which included Fuller’s London Pride and Bank’s Mild in Birmingham.

Colin Valentine, CAMRA national chairman, said: “We would be delighted if British Pop and Rock stars echo what Katie Perry did and greet their crowds with a pint of the regional brew to help raise the profile of British brewing.”

Of the 672 people surveyed, 13% said Welsh singing legend Tom Jones would be the person they would most like to sit down for a pint with.

The Great British Beer Festival is set to take place from 12 to 16 August when more than 55,000 beer fans are expected to descend on London’s Olympia to sample more than 900 real ales, international beers, ciders and perries across 29 bars. For more information click here.
