Two sales kick off Sotheby’s HK auctions
Sotheby’s Hong Kong sales season is to begin this April with two “important” sales, one of Bordeaux and the other from the cellars of a US ambassador.
The first sale of Bordeaux will take place on 4 April and the 380+ lots are expected to make HK$18 million – HK$26m (US$2.3-$3.3m).
The second sale meanwhile will begin after the first on 4 April and will continue the following day, its 1,200 lots expected to fetch HK$53m – HK$75m.
Sale highlights from the first sale include: Yquem from 1996-2001, Cheval Blanc from 1966-2004, Lafite and Haut-Brion from 1982-2000 and Mouton Rothschild from 1975-2000 which includes several large formats of the 2000 vintage.
Serena Sutcliffe MW, head of Sotheby’s International Wine Department, said: “Landmark vintages are here in abundance. There is the same wonderful choice for all the first growths.
“This splendid collection is a serenade to the magnificence of Bordeaux’s first growths, surely amongst the greatest achievements of France itself.”
The second part of the auction features the cellar of ex-US ambassador Ronald Weiser.
It includes a vertical of Mouton Rothschild from 1918 to 1996 in a wider set of Mouton lots spanning 1899 to 2009, magnums of 1929 Cheval Blanc, 1959 Lafite and 1945 La Mission Haut-Brion, as well as 80 lots of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti spanning 1952 to 2008 and Henri Jayer from 1980 to 1993.
