29 more Oddbins stores go on sale

The joint administrators of Oddbins have put a further 29 UK stores on sale, with the deadline for offers being 5pm on 27 May.

This follows the first wave of sales at the end of April when joint administrators Lee Manning and Matthew Smith of Deloitte announced 55 closed stores were up for sale.

Nine of the second wave stores are located in and around Greater London, including Leadenhall Market, Richmond, South Kensington and Maida Vale.

The stores available outside London include Wetherby in West Yorkshire, Canterbury in Kent and Shipley, West Yorkshire.

"This is an exciting opportunity for experienced, independent operators to acquire former corporate-owned off-licences at attractive prices and without tie," said a statement on Christie & Co’s website.

Meanwhile, Oddbins’ former owner Simon Baile has bought five of his shops back from administrators Deloitte.

Three of the sites are in London – Canonbury, East Sheen and Farringdon Street, one is in Surbiton and the fifth in Summertown, Oxford.

The new stores will trade under the name of his existing company ExCellar, which has stores in Ashtead, Claygate, London’s Fulham Road, and Paris.

“Our first task is to get the shops trading again, to get a team together and get energy back into the stores. We intend to offer interesting wines from small independent growers,” Baile said.
