Cultured club arrives in Soho

Boy George added some glamour to the opening of Diu last week, the latest nightclub to arrive in London’s Soho.

The former Culture Club frontman was at the decks for last week’s opening party at the club, which is the first personal venture for bar director Vedran Milosevic, who has spent 10 years working for London venue’s Sketch and The Kingly Club.

The Greek Street venue, with a capacity of 250 people, offers a riot of colour, lighting and style over two dance floors and bars.

Interior designers TibbattsKirkAbel were responsible for the club’s look, which aims to be “a nod towards luxury and decadence”.

Diu offers yet another option on the bustling street just off Soho Square, positioned alongside Dean Street Townhouse, Soho House and The Groucho Club as well as restaurants The Gay Hussar and The Union Club which also inhabit the area.

Head mixologist, Ed McAvoy, has created a range of bar shooters and cocktails especially for the club which also boasts an extensive drinks menu with Champagnes and spirits in a wide variety of bottle formats, even going as far as a Methuselah of Belvedere vodka for those with a spare £1,800.

The venue aims to hold weekly live sets as a more relaxed alternative to the house style which ranges from hip-hop to rock ‘n’ roll and club favourites to disco classics.

One of Diu’s investors, Ross Sanders, the founder of Urban & Country Leisure, has revealed plans to take the Diu concept across the pond to New York in the near future.
