Shaker tie-in with WSET

UK bartending school Shaker has just launched its first WSET-affiliated course. The WSET Level 1 Foundation Certificate in Spirits has now been combined as part of the company’s five day International Bartenders Course or, alternatively, Shaker can offer a separate course focused exclusively on this qualification.

Established in 2001 by Adam Freeth, Shaker has since expanded from its original Birmingham headquarters to open bar schools in London, Cape Town and, just last year, Johannesburg. Further plans are currently in the pipeline to expand to Cyprus and India.

2009 also saw the company introduce its first molecular mixology course, teaching bartenders how to push their cocktail skills to the next level with techniques which verge very much on the Heston Blumenthal school of creativity. The inspiration spectrum here ranges from a simple dash of celery foam on top of a Bloody Mary, to a “Full English” porcini and bacon Martini and even a rum and mango-flavoured creation which arrives disguised as a soft boiled egg.
