What a delight this wine was! A complex nose, with dark berries, damsons and plums, some subtle oak influence and a touch of stewed cherry and vanilla. At over 10 years of age, it still has vibrant fruit and the freshness so typical of Dão, ripe and deep with layers of sous-bois and spiciness. Moderate alcohol, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity give good balance to the fruit. I took the rest of this bottle home for dinner, and it was just delicious with my boeuf bourguignon.
