Tasting notes:
In 1815, Scottish brothers Robert and John Cockburn bypassed the oldfashioned merchants in Porto and bought grapes for themselves in the Upper Douro. Tawny-coloured with a brick-red tint, this wine has an aromatic nose of dried red berries and lightly toasted nuts, with accents of honey, caramel and vanilla oak with a floral lift. Sweet, but not overly so, the mid-weight palate has raisined fruit balanced by tangy acidity and gently grippy tannins. Nutty on the finish and really delicious, the wine will be a good pairing for home-made apple pie. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
