Tasting notes:
The winery is named after the dandelion cover crop that help to suppress winter weeds. The Faraway Tree of McLaren Vale is part of Firehawk Farm, a single bio-dynamically run vineyard at the top of an ancient ridge above McLaren Vale on the Willunga escarpment. Partially ‘managed’ by the native Firehawk bird-of-prey, who frightens away other birds, rabbits and other animals at ripening. Crafted by Elena Brooks and her team, this wine exhibits a mid-ruby colour with bright pomegranate and raspberry fruit and accents of smoky wood and cigar box. Sweet-fruited, the palate is full-bodied balanced by lively acidity and quite dense velvet-textured tannins. A hint of mint adds interest and suggests a pairing with roast leg of lamb studded with garlic cloves and served with mint sauce. [Patricia Stefanowicz MW]
