Tasting notes:
In 1844 Dr. Christopher and Mary Penfold planted black varieties, imported from Europe, on the Magill Estate and established Penfolds Estate. A century-and-a-half later this Riesling was created as part of the evolving white wine range. The wine expresses beautifully the high altitude, cool climate of Eden Valley. Pale lemon-green in colour, the delicate aromatics are white peach, lemon zest and accents of white flowers and wisteria. Dry and light-bodied, the palate has good intensity and extract bolstered by bracing acidity and a sappy finish. A textural wine, it will pair well with simply prepared lemon sole, perhaps with a light sorrel sauce. [Patricia Stefanowicz MW]
