Tasting notes:
Vincenzo Florio founded his eponymous cellar in 1833, and today the winery is the dominant producer of fine-quality Marsala wines, having around 80% of Sicily’s production of aged Marsala. This really delicious wine is representative of the way dry Marsala should be. Deepish tawny coloured with an orange-green rim, the wine is perfumed and complex, showing crushed red berries and hazelnuts, overlaid with rhododendrons and creamy oak notes. Mid-weight and dry-tasting, the palate has tangy acidity and grippy tannins to frame the flavours. Intriguing, well integrated and layered, the wine would be a good pairing for home-cured duck breasts with prune purée. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
