Tasting notes:

This very high-altitude vineyard near Pinhão has been supplying finequality grapes throughout the history of Port production. Since 2007 it has been part of the Alves de Sousa family-owned vineyards. A brilliant, well-recognised quinta, now under the direction of Domingos Alves de Sousa, this vineyard is something of a family secret, even nowadays. From the top-quality vintage of 2020, the wine is still very youthful. Almost opaque purple-black in colour, the wine exudes brambles and ultra-ripe blackcurrant fruit, with undertones of cinnamon, allspice, black pepper and forest floor. Full, dense and rich, there is good, fresh acidity and dense tannins to support the flavours and alcohol. Balanced, layered and textured, but somewhat overwhelming at the moment, this is a wine to keep in the cellar to savour in 30 to 50 years as one of the greats. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
