Founded by legendary Hugh Johnson OBE in 1990, the Royal Tokaji wine company aims to preserve and extend the centuries-long heritage of the Hungarian Tokaj region. This wine is stunningly delicious. Medium yellow-gold in hue, the wine exudes rich honey at the core with raisins, tangerine, sweet orange and dried mango overlaid with nuts and caramel and a hint of white flowers. Cleansing on the palate, the intense sweetness (197g/l r.s.) is beautifully balanced by high acidity. A textural and complex wine with a savoury finish, destined for a long life, but is superb with Southern pecan pie now. [Patricia Stefanowicz MW]
