Founded in 1969 in Elciego, Viña Salceda is now under the direction of David González, a well-respected winemaker with more than 28 years of experience. With access to grapes from a number of exceptional parajes, the bodega is moving from strength to strength. This wine, a crianza with extended ageing in concrete on the lees, comes from a parcel in Laguardia. A beautiful expression, the wine exhibits a deep ruby hue, with dark cherry and cranberry fruit overlaid with vanilla and milk chocolate. Dry, but sweet-fruited, the palate flavours are framed by crisp acidity and velvet-textured tannins, with accents of roast coffee and tobacco. Quite broad across the palate and balanced by good freshness, the wine will pair with spicy barbecued pork, southern-style. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
