Tasting notes:

With a vineyard of 90,000 vines on 22ha in the Kamptal zone, Weixelbaum are focussed on white wines, and this wine, an Erste Lage from the Ried Gaisberg, is an example of the superb wines that they produce. Medium yellow-gold in colour, the wine has apricot and yellow peach fruit with accents of yellow flowers and honey. Off-dry, but quite rich and intense, the palate flavours are balanced by searing acidity and a gently creamy texture. Complexity comes through with sequential nuances of orange and grapefruit marmalades and a stony note. Persistent and lingering and quite savoury on the finish, this wine will match scallops with roast quince and red Swiss chard. [Patricia Stefanowicz MW]
