Tasting notes:
This wine is from the Cerro Blanco, Pirque and Alto Maipo sub-zones, which are quite high-altitude vineyards in the heart of the Andes above Maipo Valley, where the soils tend to have a high percentage of calcium carbonate, giving chalky minerality. The wine, medium ruby-hued, displays a mix of summer pudding fruits with cigar box overtones and accents of blackcurrant leaf and red pepper. Mid-weight, the palate is strengthened by fresh acidity and grippy tannins to balance the warming alcohol and intriguing flavours. A touch of chalk on the finish adds more interest and suggests that this wine might work well with a dish such as beef roulades with pecorino, coppa ham and green olives. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
