Tasting notes:
Sandeman is renowned for its aged tawny ports and this wine, coming from the classic tradition, has an average of 10 years oak ageing. The blend displays a lovely balance between youthful freshness and aged bouquet. Mid-tawny with hints of rose-gold in hue, this tawny port has cherries, dried cranberries, dried apricots, cashew nuts and hints of raisin with creamy, gently toasty oak and earthy accents. The mid-weight, though warming, palate is sweet (101g/l r.s.) with the well-defined flavours balanced by fresh acidity, grippy tannins and well-integrated alcohol. The lingering finish has plenty of spice and roasted coffee, suggesting that the wine will work nicely, slightly chilled, with frozen zabaglione pie or pistachio crème brulée.
