Tasting notes:
Yedi Bilgeler Winery boasts an impressive vineyard and cellar in the South Aegean area of Turkey. This glorious Bordeaux blend is appropriately named Pythagoras after the master mathematician and polymath, whose dialogues influenced Plato and Aristotle. The wine bearing his name has an almost opaque, purple-black hue and shows dark berries, black plums and ripe blackcurrants, with tobacco and roast coffee. Dry, but sweet-fruited, the full-bodied palate displays tangy acidity and dense, velvet-textured tannins, with spice and black pepper notes underlying the fruit and oak. Warm and appealing, the wine will be a good match for traditional lamb chops or kebabs, marinated in onion, orange peel, lime juice, garlic, yogurt and saffron water. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
