Founded in 1998 by three families, including Philip and Elvira Cox, Cramele Recaș produces a wide range of fruit-driven wines from both native and international varieties. This inexpensive wine is an excellent example of an innovative modern Syrah. Deepish ruby purple in colour, the wine shows pure, vibrant blackberry fruit with a black pepper undertone. Just dry and quite sweet-fruited, the palate is balanced by racy acidity and supple tannins. Warming on the finish, the wine will pair nicely with barbecued chicken. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
