Tasting notes:

Viña Pomal, established in 1901 in Haro’s railway station quarter, produced its first wines in 1904. Viña Pomal is a beloved and prestigious brand of Bodegas Bilbaínas, which comprises 15 bodegas. The opulent winery (late Victorian in style) and its historic buildings are built above 3,400sq m of underground cellars. The wines, including this very modern organic wine, are renowned and always good value. This expression shows a deep garnet colour and dark berry, red plum and wild cherry fruit, with tobacco and leather notes. Dry, but richly fruited, the palate is framed by crisp acidity and grippy tannins, and gives complexity with cinnamon and allspice accents. Warming, but lifted on the finish, this is a great wine for a typical mixed meat and seafood paella. (Patricia Stefanowicz MW)
