Gaining the highest average scores of the competition was this Chardonnay-dominant top expression from Champagne Ayala. Mature and mouthwatering, it is rich in flavours of Brazil nut and toasted bread, baked apple and brown sugar, with some bitter lemon bite on its bone-dry finish.  (Patrick Schmitt MW)
